The African National Congress (ANC) has selected five candidates from minority communities to contest ward councillor positions across Centurion in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The candidates are:
- Naeem Patel — Ward 61
- Moosa Bhamjee — Ward 48
- Ahmed Muhammad — Ward 65
- Naeem Nawab Tahir Chaudhry — Ward 79
- Denise Govender — Ward 78
Centurion falls within Region 4 of the City of Tshwane, which consists of 12 wards and has an estimated population of about 379,000, according to the City.
The ANC currently holds Wards 61, 77 and 106, while the remaining wards in the region are represented by the Democratic Alliance.
Patel, who represents Ward 61, which includes Laudium, Erasmia, Claudius, Itireleng and surrounding areas, will contest the ward again.
The ANC says the selection of the five candidates reflects its focus on representation and community diversity in Centurion. The candidates will contest both ANC-held and DA-held wards.
The party is also seeking to increase its representation in Region 4 in the 2026 election.
In addition to the five ward candidates, the ANC has placed two candidates from the Ward 61 area on its proportional representation (PR) list — Firoz Dockrat from Sector 1 in Erasmia and Riyadh Pillay from Primrose Street in Whiteblocks, Laudium.
