Dear Residents of Ward 61

Potholes
Ward 61 falls into region 4 Centurion, which has 12 wards. Two days are allocated per ward in the region for pothole repairs by the City of Tshwane.
Ward 61 has been allocated the 14th and 29th March for pothole repairs (weather permitting)

*29th March*

356 Taj St
The above feedback we received from the department repairing the potholes. Potholes that have been logged and are not on the list above will be fixed in the coming months, depending on the number in the queue.
Grass Cutting
My office has escalated the grass cutting issues in our ward to the Director responsible for cutting grass in our ward. Below is the reponse we received:
"Dear Cllr's,
Please note all escalations are recorded and scheduled. Due to rain, areas that were cut have re-grown and requires a re-cut. We are doing our best to keep the region as tidy as possible..🙏🏾"
The rain that we have been having since January has made it difficult for teams to keep up with the grass cutting requirements in our ward. They are however working overtime to sort out the backlog.
Street lights
Considerable progress has been made with the street light repairs in our ward. After the storm last week some of the lights that were repaired recently once again stopped working. This has been reported again to the Council. They are busy carrying out an audit in the evening of the street lights that need repairs and are continuing with repairs daily. The team is responsible for Street lights throughout the region
Itireleng power issues
Three meetings were held with the relevant departments and the Itireleng steering committee for electricity. The leadership of Itireleng made it clear that the community is willing to pay for electricity and that prepaid meters need to be installed. Where meters have been installed and are not working they should be fixed. The illegal connections remains a challenge not only in Itireleng but Laudium and Erasmia as well.
A follow up meeting will be held in March together with other departments including the MMC for Housing & the MMC for Utilities, to address the transformer issues and electrification of other parts of Itireleng.
Illegal Buildings
We have ongoing engagements with the city regarding Illegal buildings and businesses in our ward. A few owners of illegal buildings have already being issued contravention notices . This is a continuous challenge which we are dealing with one at a time.
The burnt out building in White Blocks and the dilapitated building on the Cnr of Green and Umber streets, have been reported to council as not only an environmental hazard but also the fact that criminal activity is taking place at these properties. Council is looking into the matter. The community is busy signing a petition to force the owners to have these buildings demolished.
We are working on an anonymous online system where residents can report illegal buildings, dumping etc. to our office
We request residents to follow the building and rezoning by-laws
Cemetery
A committee has been set up to deal with the challenges we face at the Laudium Cemetery. A meeting has been requested with the MMC repsonsible for Cemetery's to address these challenges. We are hopeful that this meeting will take place in March.
A special thanks to Pretoria Muslim Burial, Central Muslim Burial, Shakeel Bhidia, Ismail Smiley Essa, Inaam Patel and others who voluntarily assist in sorting out the challenges at the cemetery
Outstanding Account / Arrears
We encourage residents to pay their accounts on time. A special request to residents who are in arrears to make arrangements with the Council before being cut off. Once power and Water is disconnected it is very difficult to get it restored. We understand that we are going through challenging times, therefore it is understandable that some residents fall behind with bills. It is therefore necessary to make arrangements to pay before being cut off.
Daily we are finding that many residents are illegally connecting their own electricity, bribing officials to not suspend, illegally reconnecting water or power after being disconnected by council & tampering with the water and electricity meters etc. We discourage the community from carrying out any criminal activity. The city is taking harsh steps against anyone found breaking the law. The city is also carrying out an audit on Electricity and water meters to make sure that it has not been tampered with.
Sports
A committee of various sporting codes has been set up and had its first meeting last week. Challenges facing the sporting community have been raised and will be addressed with council.
The fencing at Laudium tennis courts has been repaired by the association. We are currently working with council to restore power to the facility. My office facilitated a meeting between the Tennis association and security guards to secure the facility. We hope by monthend that the facility will be fully functional once again.
Dumping
We have received a response from the city regarding the re-opening of the garden refuse site in 2nd Avenue Laudium. According to the Engineers and Geologist the site in 2nd Avenue is no longer suitable for a garden refuse site as it is very unstable and there is a high risk of another sinkhole developing. We will engage the city to give us an alternate site for garden refuse.
Illegal dumping is of a major concern to our office. We encourage residents to please use the dustbins provided for all domestic refuse. Garden refuse, building rubble, other rubble and dirt needs to be taken to the various dump sites in Centurion, to dispose of.
A request has been made to TMPD to enforce the by-laws. Fines will be given for illegal dumping.
Sinkholes
Three sinkholes in Laudium and Erasmia are on the Municipal sinkhole priority list for repairs, at different numbers of priority out of the current 43 sinkholes.
The status is summarised below:
No 15.
Erasmia 237 Sesmylspruit Street
No 22.
Erasmia 569 Eli Street
No 37.
Laudium Cnr 2nd & 3rd Ave
The above is the feedback I received after engaging the council on the Sinkholes in our ward.
The city fixes on average 3-4 sinkholes per year
Almost on a daily basis via Media, Social Media, etc. feedback is given to the community.
Please feel free to WhatsApp my office on 064 503 7483 or email ward61@tshwane.gov.za for any Municipal service issues
