A security guard from Scorpion Risk Services is in a critical condition after being shot four times in what appears to be an armed robbery.
The incident happened in the early hours of this morning at the Mooiplaas Dumping site in Centurion.
The guard was on patrol when four men, armed with firearms ambushed him and shot him four times. The guard sustained bullet wounds in his back, upper body and arm. The attackers robbed him of his firearm, before fleeing to the nearby informal settlement, Mooiplaats, or better know as Spruit.
The wounded guard was assisted on scene by senior reaction officers of Scorpion Risk applying pressure to the wounds, whilst waiting for medical personnel to arrive.
Netcare 911 dispatched its Advance Life Support medics, and also its air ambulance. The critically wounded victim was airlifted and transported to Milpark Hospital.
The owner of Scorpion Risk Services, Mr. Riaan Erasmus described the attack as cowardly, and has vowed to find the perpetrators.
Erasmus expressed his gratitude to JP le Roux of Monitornet, who assisted with arranging medical services.
Scorpion Risk Services will pay a reward of R10 000 for information that will lead to the recovery of the firearm, the arrest and the successful prosecution of the suspects.
