The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) will be striking tomorrow, 26 July 2023 to show their dissatisfaction over the 0% salary increase.

The marchers will gather from 09:00 at Old Putco Depot, corner Eskia Mphahlele Drive and Struben Street Pretoria, then march onto Struben Street, turn right onto Sophie De Bruyn, turn left onto Madiba Street, then proceed straight until they reach Tshwane House.

The following streets will be affected:

* Johannes Ramokgoase Street

* Kgosi Mampuru Street

* Bosman Street

* Paul Kruger Street

* Thabo Sehume Street

* Lillian Ngoyi Street

* Madiba Street

* Struben Street

* Sophie De Bruyn Street

They are expected to disperse from the Tshwane House at 14h00.

Motorists are advised to avoid affected streets and use alternative routes such as:

* Nana Sita Street

* WF Nkomo Street

* Boom Street

* Francis Baard Street

* Sisulu Street

* Nelson Mandela Drive

Tshwane Metro Police officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.

Since yesterday, a group of employees from the City of Tshwane are striking illegally at the municipal offices in Centurion.

The City said they will not tolerate any form of illegal strike action, and the no-work, no-pay principle will be applied.

Mayor Cilliers Brink says it would cost R600 million more if they had to pay these increases, but unfortunately cannot due to the present financial situation.

Meanwhile, some homes in Laudium and Claudius are without power for three days.
