Social Activist, Yusuf Abramjee, says the high accident rate in and around Laudium, Claudius, Erasmia, Sunderland Ridge and surrounds “is of major concern.”
We are seeing crashes almost every day, especially on the R55 dual carriage way.
“There appears to be little or no regard for the rules of the road,” Abramjee told Laudium Today.
The number of taxis involved in collisions is also of concern. We need to stop this!
“I will be calling on law enforcement agencies to intensify operations. Speed, reckless driving and disregard for traffic signs and stop signs appears to be common. This lawlessness needs to be stopped.” said Abramjee.
He said while the R55 was being patrolled by the Gauteng High Speed Unit regularly, and arrests are made weekly, some motorists “seem to just don’t care.”
“I will also ask the TMPD to act decisively,” he added.
Abramjee said he will engage the Gauteng Community Safety Dept to have “special operations in the area.”
