The Pretoria Legacy Foundation (PLF) founded in 2009 celebrated 160 years in the Gauteng chapter of the arrival of Indians in South Africa in 1860 in 2010.
Since there was not much activity for almost ten years the PLF was relaunched in 2021 by members of the Eersterust and Laudium communities.
“The newly elected committee believed that it was important to trace back the origins of our forebears through the celebration of various events to honour their legacy.”
“The vision of the committee focused on Education, Business, Sport, Culture, Youth and
community unification building projects.” Chairman Daya Chetty said in a statement.
The PLF will be hosting a Fun Run/Walk on the 4th of June 2023 at the Laudium Sports Grounds with the focus on honouring sporting stalwarts and legends who contributed towards our legacy with the development and administration of sport during the early days of Marabastad, Lady Selborne, Claremont and other areas in the Tshwane area.
The PLF says they will be capturing stories of these stalwarts and displaying them in a marquee at the sports grounds which will include photos, stories and events during that period.
“The sporting legends if still alive will be present with their families to tell their stories to visitors and guests.”
There will be stalls selling various items and entertainment by the Pretoria Muslim Brigade. The formal program will include speeches by guest speakers such as Mr Fakir Hassen, Mr Docky Dockrat, The MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture and other sporting personalities.
“We look forward to your support on the day and welcome any donations towards this event since we are a non profit organization.” Daya Chetty added.
The entry fee for students and seniors will be R10 and adults will pay R20.
There will be a 1.6km, 5km and 8km run/walk which will begin at 8am (5km & 8km) and 8:15am (1.6km).
This event is organised by the Pretoria Legacy Foundation (PLF) in conjunction with RunXtreme Athletics Club and supported by Ace Running Club (Eersterust) and Jacaranda Athletic Club (JAC).
