A joint law enforcement operation conducted on Friday night led to the arrest of three suspects and the shutdown of multiple illegal shebeens operating in Erasmia.
The operation, carried out by the South African Police Service together with CPF Erasmia Sector 1, security companies ADT, SDS, Buraaq, and a tactically armed security partner, focused on illegal activity around the Helena Street municipal park and surrounding areas.
According to CPF Erasmia Sector 1, two additional illegal shebeens were also targeted during the operation, while random stop-and-search activities and high-visibility patrols were conducted throughout Erasmia.
During the operation:
• Three suspects were arrested
• Six crates of alcohol were confiscated
• Illegal alcohol sales operating from municipal property were shut down
CPF Erasmia Sector 1 said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to restore safety, law and order in the community.
“Municipal parks are meant for families, children and residents, not for illegal drinking spots, criminal activity and public disorder,” the CPF said in a statement.
The CPF further called on relevant municipal departments and council representatives to work alongside community structures in addressing ongoing concerns surrounding the Helena Street park, including allegations linked to the illegal sale of alcohol from the premises.
The organisation added that tackling illegal immigrants, drug dealers, illegal shebeens and criminal elements remains among its top priorities as part of efforts to reclaim and clean up the community.
Residents were also urged to continue supporting law enforcement and community policing efforts through information sharing and cooperation.
“A safer community requires unity and partnership,” the statement concluded.
