The Joosab Family partnered with Ward 61 Councillor Naeem Patel today to distribute 3,500 blankets and 4,000 loaves of bread to residents in Laudium and Itireleng.
The initiative was carefully planned, with 3,500 vouchers distributed beforehand to ensure an organised collection process. At the Laudium Civic Centre, 2,000 blankets and 2,000 loaves of bread were handed out, while Itireleng residents received 1,500 blankets and 2,000 loaves of bread.
From the early hours of Saturday morning, long queues formed at both venues as residents eagerly awaited the much-needed winter assistance.
Members of the Joosab Family, the Ward 61 Residents Association, the Ward Committee, the Laudium CPF and Councillor Patel worked together to distribute the items.
Many beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, with the blankets providing warmth and comfort during the cold winter months and the bread helping to feed struggling families.
Over the years, Councillor Patel has spearheaded numerous community upliftment initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable residents. Since 2021, he has facilitated the distribution of food parcels, grocery vouchers, socks, sanitary pads, beanies, bottled water, medical equipment, computers, school shoes, stationery packs, sports equipment and other essential items, positively impacting thousands of lives across Ward 61.
Speaking after the distribution, Councillor Patel thanked the Joosab Family for their trust and partnership in making the initiative possible.
"This project is about more than blankets and bread. It is about bringing hope, restoring dignity and showing residents that their community cares about them. We are grateful to the Joosab Family for joining us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people," he said.
"I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to community leader Yunus Essop for his unwavering support and assistance in making today’s project a success."
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Councillor Patel has led blanket distribution programmes in the community, continuing his commitment to supporting residents during the winter season.
