Laudium All Stars participated in the Middelburg tournament, the past weekend. The club traveled with an under 9, Under 12, Under 14 & a Under 17 division. The tournament was held at East Dene Sports complex. The venue was packed with travelling teams from as far as Piet Retief for this tournament.
The tournament format was as follows, 6 teams per division and the top two teams automatically progressed to the finals. The under 9 division, played 5 games, they manage to win 4 games and drew 1 game against Eastdene Combined (the team that our under 9 division played in the final).
Our under 9 boys showed their true talent at the tournament, scoring a total of 23 goals in the round robin stages. In the final, the score was deadlocked at 0-0 and penalties had to decide the winner. Our Goal keeper, was outstanding in the penalty shootout, as he managed a clean sheet from the 4 spot kicks taken. We missed 1 penalty and managed to win the game 2-0, as the opposition took the 1st penalty. Ilhan Khan was the player of the tournament for the under 9 division – our striker!, scoring 8 goals in the tournament.

Our under 12 boys, played under the same format of 6 teams in the division and the top 2 progressing to the finals. Our boys managed to win 3x games and drew 2, we did not loose a game in this division as well. We played Piet Retief in the finals of this division. Our boys took an early lead in the 1st half. The 2nd half of the game was intense, as Piet Retief scored an equalizer shortly after the game commenced. Our boys showed character and courage, as the coach was steering them on from the line and we managed to score the winner, late in the 2nd half , thus winning the division 2-1. Seth from Laudium All Stars won player of the tournament in this division, with an outstanding performance in the tournament scoring a total of 7 goals.

Our under 15 & under 17 boys were knocked out in the group stages of the tournament. As it was just not our day for these divisions. The u17 team needed to win there last game in order to obtain a place in the finals but a goal being disallowed in the final moments of the game did not allow us to progress to the finals. Piet Retief under 15 and Middelburg under 17 won the tournament for their respective divisions.
Laudium All Stars prides itself on going for “outside tournaments” as this is the best exposure for our kids. We have been successful & unsuccessful at the various tournaments that we participated in, but this allows us a club to see how we fair against the “outside teams”. In Brits this year we cleaned house, winning all divisions that participated in the event, u10 and u15, both our A&B teams made the finals respectively at this tournament. In Middleburg, 4 divisions took part we were successful in 2 divisions of the tournament.
These tournaments will create live long memories for these kids. Keep a look out for the annual Legends Cup 2019, that is hosted by the Club in October. Our invite is always extended to these “outside clubs”, please come join us in support as we showcase Laudium Talent at Legends Cup 2019.
