The SCC Hall in Erasmia buzzed with celebration on Sunday as Laudium Care Services for the Aged (LCSA) hosted a stunning fundraising lunch to commemorate their 25th anniversary. The event, meticulously orchestrated by master of ceremonies Mahier Tayob, was a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Riyaadh Hoosen, the son-in-law of the late Joe Wajar.
Family members Abdul Kabeer Wajar and Mohamed Tayob (Tayfin) delivered moving tributes to Dr. Riyaadh, a beloved figure in the community, as the Tayob and Wajar families sponsored 20 tables in his honor, demonstrating their profound respect and admiration.

In his chairman's address, Mr. Ahmed Arbee emphasized the crucial role of LCSA’s sponsors and addressed the ongoing challenges faced by the senior citizens they serve. He praised the organization’s dedication to providing care with honor and dignity, stressing the importance of community support.
Judge Jody Kolapen, an Honorary Member of LCSA, introduced the keynote speaker, Advocate Adila Hassim SC. Hassim, known for her pivotal role in South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice, reminisced about her childhood visits to Laudium and expressed her joy at participating in the event during Women’s Month. Her speech resonated with the audience, bridging personal memories with the event's significance.

The Deputy Chairperson Aneesa Cassim introduced the next speaker Fatima-Joyce Packery who is the CEO and Co founder of PF Africa Mining. Fatima shared her role as a Woman in mining and that she was at the right time at the right place at various times in her career but it was her hard work and vision that fueled her rise to prominence within the mining sector.
Both speakers were awarded tokens of appreciation by honorary member Hafsa Carrim as well as books gifted to the ladies by former Pretorian Fakir Hassen.
The fundraising lunch was a testament to community spirit, with local businessmen and residents rallying to support LCSA’s mission. Attendees were treated to a delicious five-course meal, and the excitement continued with a series of lucky draws. Rashad Dawood won a two-night stay at the Sandton Sun Hotel, while Dr. Joosub was awarded R5000 towards a flight ticket, sponsored by Rashid Tar of Harvey Travel.
The event also took time to honor three distinguished elderly ladies: Ayesha Ismail, 95, Mrs. Kalyan, 93, and Amina Aboo, 90, celebrating their remarkable lives and contributions.

Laudium Care Services for the Aged, which provides crucial support and services to the elderly in the community, relies on fundraising efforts to meet its annual operational costs of approximately R600,000.
Recently a team of board members, volunteers and seniors have launched a pickle project whereby pickles are made and sold by the organization, these were not only on sale at the function but was served to the guests, which were absolutely delicious. This project will be ongoing as well as seasonal so our community should support this initiative when having functions by ordering these yummy pickles ranging from carrot, qumquat, lemon, pineapple, chow chow and whatever other vegetables are in season.
The 25th anniversary lunch underscored the organization’s enduring commitment and the vital role of community involvement in sustaining its mission.
