A 35 year old man has been arrested by Laudium police after found in possession of a stolen car battery and implements used to break into motor vehicles.
Local cops were conducting a stop and search operation on Monday afternoon when they noticed a suspicious male carrying a school bag.
Upon searching the suspect, officers found that he was in possession of a car battery as well as implements used to break into vehicles.
The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation and was immediately taken into custody.
Laudium police Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Britz has applauded officers for their swift response and hard work and has urged the community to assist the police in their efforts in the fight against crime by reporting any suspicious activity to the SAPS by calling the police emergency number 10111 or the crime stop number 08600 10111.
The arrest follows a spate of vehicle battery thefts during recent months. The public have also been urged to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to safeguard their vehicles.
The suspect is due to appear in the Atteridgeville magistrates court on various charges including the possession of suspected stolen property.
