Laudium Residents Invited to Discuss Efforts to Legalize Gates

24 April 2025   •   ~2 min read

Dear Residents of Laudium

The Laudium Gating Community was formed in September 2024 with the intention to obtain permission from Council for the "illegal" gates in laudium which, were being erected all over.

At the time many gates did not comply with existing Council by-laws and this posed the risk of all gates in Laudium being removed.

The LGC invited the various Home Owners Associations (HOA's) and regular meetings were held to organise ourselves and to find consistency in our security initiatives in terms of what can and cannot be done. To date we have formed a representative NPC, we are in the process of adopting a draft constitution and have representation of just under 1500 home through 9 HOA's. (Two other HOA's have already submitted their applications separately).

We also met with Council on several occasions, not only to deal with the threats of our existing gates being removed, but more importantly on how to go about framing our application as Laudium has already started gated without application and also in fragmented sectors.

It must be pointed out that the application to legalise the gates are time consuming, and costly. The LGC has already done the necessary preparatory work for the HOA's it represents.

I am pleased to report that through meetings with Street Safe (specialist security consultants), Bakoni (traffic engineers), Town planners and the Council's Chief Traffic Engineer, we have reached a point we're we can move forward with our road closure application (under section 45).

To this end the LGC extend an invitation to :

1. All HOA's not already affiliated to join the LGC so that your gates can form part of the application. Note that failure to lodge an of application could result in any illegal structures being removed by TMPD.

2. All interested community members and organisations to discuss and gain a broad understanding of our plans and objectives around security, taking back our streets, and improving the quality of life for all it's residents.

3. Assists anyone still interested in gating their sector to be a part of the LGC application as all future applications will have to be lodged separately.

Notice is hereby given for your attendance at a special public meeting for this purpose.
