Lyema Dopolo, rising star from amongst Laudium Secondary School’s grade 9’s of 2019, brings home ‘Man of the Match,’ in the Cosafa Cup earlier this year. It was an invigorating match against Eswathini, in Malawi, which took place on the 16th of October 2019, that saw Lyema seal the coveted award for his brilliant contribution to his team.
The young teen, just 15 years old, plays for Supersport United’s U17 and U19 divisions respectively. He has been playing for this club since 2017 and has continued to grow ever since. His commitment, dedication and passion for this sport, has cemented his place in the ranks of the club.
Lyema began his soccer career at the tender age of 7 years old, when he played for the Case River Football Club U9 division, which was against Norther Suburb LSA in Cape Town. This was where he was scouted for his talent and later joined Supersport United Football Club.
He aspires to be like Virgil Van Dijk, the centre back of Liverpool Football Club, whose position he plays in his own team. In Lyema's opinion, Van Dijk is “one of the greatest defenders there is today.”
“The ultimate dream”, according to Lyema is, “I would love to play the centre back for Barcelona Football Club, one day.”
Laudium Secondary School (management, staff, students), family and friends are truly proud of his success thus far and wish him all the best for his future endeavours, in his soccer career.
