Man convicted for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in Laudium

Police in Laudium welcomed the conviction of 32 year old Mashilo Joel Makhura for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.


Dedicated member Sergeant Naidoo managed to secure the conviction of four months imprisonment or fine of four thousand rand (R4000.00) which is wholly suspended for five years.


The conviction was handed out at Atteridgeville Magistrate court on 2020-11-17.

It is alleged that a fight broke out on the 2019-03-16 at a Tavern in Itireleng between the suspect and his friend. The victim tried to separate the two and while in the process he was beaten by a bottle on the head.


A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened at Laudium SAPS for investigation. The suspect was later arrested.


Laudium SAPS Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Nkwane applauded members for their continuous hard work and success for the station on fighting crime. 

The Station Commander further stated that criminals will no longer be roaming freely in Laudium.
