Open Letter to Zwartkop Vaccination Drive-in

Dear Mr Yusuf Abramjee

As’sa’laa’mu A’lay’kum Wa-Rah’matul’laa’hi Wa’Ba’ra’kaa’tuh’

I would like to thank you as well as the Gauteng Province, David Makhura, Dr Mokgethi (Gauteng health) and all the committee members including MZ (Pharmacy), Farouk Essopie (Councillor), Ahmed (Laudium Disaster Management), Nabil (Paramedic), Fatima Juma, Doctors (including Dr Sattar Abbobaker, Dr Munnira Moosa, Dr Sujata, the veteran and young Dr’s), medical students, nurses, paramedics, Laudium Community Hospital, volunteers, sponsors (Laudium Today; K. Carrim Group; AMKA; Kit-Kat; Foodline, and others), caterers and support staff

CONGRATULATIONS on your 5000th Vaccination delivery today! This is a historical milestone for this new, well-organised drive-in community initiative!

May Allah, Most Merciful, Reward you all abundantly in this noble endeavour. The Covid-19 Global Pandemic is not only a historical event, but it has demonstrated that NGO’s and private citizens have rallied to the call of the helpless in their hour of need. It is clear that public-private corporation is essential in the fight against this Virus War

Please continue posting regular updates (pictures and videos) on social media so that other communities both locally and internationally can emulate this sterling effort. After all, media is the king. Please ensure that this Drive-in Centre continues for another 5 years to cater for herd-immunity as well as the anticipated annual (or every 2 year) booster doses depending on the feedback from medical experts at the WHO

I leave you with the following quote which you can share with your team:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.

Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has

-Margaret Mead (1901 –1978) cultural anthropologist

In the time when the world is in darkness, you only need one candle that is burning. This candle then lights other candles, and soon, the darkness is replaced with light. I would like to urge all citizens to get their vaccine (it is not nice to end up in ICU). Vaccines are not a new discovery. Polio, Measles, Mumps, Anthrax, Flu and smallpox vaccines have saved millions of lives since the ground-breaking discoveries of Edward Jenner in 1796 and Louis Pasteur in 1897 which heralded the Science of Vaccinology. However those who do not want to take the vaccine, we need to respect their wishes.

To Yusuf and the whole Zwartkops Drive-in Team: well done to all of you, even to those who pop in to give a moral support to these hard-working souls. I am looking forward with keen anticipation to the announcement of your 10,000th and 50,000th Vaccine!

With salaams and warmest regards,

Dr Ahmed Adam
