Question - Tell us about yourself and why did you decide to stand as Ward 61 Councillor?
Answer - I’m a socio- capitalist. I believe that in order to give to the less fortunate you have to have something to give. Translated into practical terms, you need to ensure that ratepayers are kept happy and well serviced in order to service the under developed areas in the city. I’m passionate about the environment and history. The reason I decided to stand for Ward 61 candidate was the fruitful yet challenging couple years I have had working alongside Cllr Essop, very few ward councillors are willing to work with opposition councillors and his passion for putting residents first is what drew me to Laudium. I share the same passion where residents come first and politics secondary. As Nelson Mandela said, “ it doesn’t matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches the mice.”
Question - Where are your favorite places to spend time in our town?
Answer - Yaseens, Erasmia Junction, Hill between Laudium and Attridgeville to enjoy the sunsets
Question - If elected, what three steps would you take to make our town a better place?
Answer - Implementation of preemptive maintenance (it requires a cultural shift in the municipality and I am getting an ear of the relevant parties that can implement), use the municipal resources available to a ward councillor to clean up the ward and ensure by-laws are enforced to keep the area clean.
Question - List the issues we currently face in our Ward!
Answer - Sporadic and intermittent electricity and water outages, pollution noise and air, littering and dumping, lack of by-law enforcement which has lead to minimal compliance by many, ageing infrastructure and crime.
Question - How do you plan to involve residents in the decision making process in our town?
Answer - Regular meetings on issues that affect them, so not only the budget, IDP or regulatory meetings, but real engagement on issues in council agendas that they may have an interest in or that indirectly will affect them.
Question - Why should the community vote for you? What difference do you see yourself making?
Answer - In the short space of time I have a PR Councillor for Laudium I have fought alongside Cllr Essop to get things done, having been with the City for a full term I have learnt how to pursue an issue and get it resolved. The officials in the city don’t change often however the politicians do and I have spent time getting accustomed to what makes them tick and how to get the most from them. I am what has been termed a back room operator, I quietly get things done without seeking any glory or recognition
