Petrol to increase by 37 cents per litre in May, diesel price set to drop

Department of Minerals and Energy has confirmed that the price of both grades of petrol will increase by 37 cents per litre in May.

 

At the same time, the diesel price will decrease by between 30 and 36 cents per litre.


Illuminating Paraffin will decrease by 25 cents at the retail level, and LP gas will decrease by 46 cents per kilogram.


Departmental spokesperson Robert Maake said the prices are effective from Wednesday 01 May 2024.


"These prices were affected by the higher oil prices, and the weaker rand during the period under review, the petrol prices are increased due to higher demand for driving season in the northern hemisphere.


"We have also observed that the shipping cost were lower during the period under review compared to previous periods."
