Police engage with local liquor outlets and community

Laudium police as well as various other specialised units and other relevant stakeholders have engaged with members of the Iterileng community including the owners of numerous taverns and shabeens.

As part of the campaign, members of the public and the owners of liquor outlets were educated on various topics including the role played by taverns and shabeens in contributing to crimes such as murder, rape, assaults and domestic violence in the area. 

Tavern and shabeen owners were also encouraged to to register their premises as liquor outlets as police prepare to crackdown on illegal alcohol sale and distribution. 

According to police spokesperson, Constable Simon Chokoe, door to door visits were also executed during which members of the public were encourage to work with the police in curbing various crimes including domestic violence, rape, assault, noise pollution and murder. 

The community were also encouraged to report any criminal activity to the SAPS by calling the 10111 number or the police crime stop number 08600 10111.
