Pretoria West Crematorium Refurbishment Update

Deputy Mayor Cllr Nasiphi Moya is pleased to announce significant progress in the refurbishment of the Rebecca Crematorium, with expectations for completion by December 2024.

Originally slated for completion by the end of 2023, the refurbishment faced delays, prompting direct political oversight from Deputy Mayor Moya following community concerns brought to the Office of the Executive Mayor.

"The Rebecca Crematorium plays a crucial role as the sole municipal facility in Tshwane," stated Deputy Mayor Moya. "Its temporary closure since June 2023 has inconvenienced residents, necessitating travel to neighboring municipalities for cremation services. We apologize for these prolonged disruptions."

Recent developments include the appointment of a service provider and additional funding allocated for the 2024/25 financial year, earmarked for gas provision and regular maintenance amounting to R1.2 million and R150,000 respectively.

"Our service provider has made significant strides, addressing mechanical repairs, testing equipment, and installing new software," added Deputy Mayor Moya. "Moreover, a tender for a three-year gas supply deal has been approved, underscoring our commitment to restoring full operational capacity."

Deputy Mayor Moya reassured residents of ongoing updates on the restoration progress, emphasizing transparency and community engagement in the process.
