ROHINGYA FIRE RELIEF PROJECT by TSHWANE MUSLIM RELIEF

24 March 2021

Over a million Rohingya refugees currently live in the Cox’s Bazaar region of Bangladesh. Although Rohingya people have fled into Bangladesh due to state-sanctioned genocide in Myanmar since the 1970s, the largest and latest exodus began in August 2017, when 742,000 people were forced to flee life-threatening violence, and seek refuge across the border. The Rohingya population in Cox’s Bazar is highly vulnerable, and having fled conflict and experienced severe trauma, they are now living in Cox’s Bazar in extremely difficult conditions. A massive fire broke out in the Kutupalong Mega refugee camp on 22 March 2021. According to initial reports, the fire affected at least 66 percent of the populations of sub-camps 9, 10, 8E and 8W. Some 87,855 people are likely to have been affected (40,490 are reported affected, and a further 47,365 are suspected to be affected). Exact figures are yet to be confirmed. Media have also already reported at least 7 dead. Project details: 3,000 food hampers @ R100 each Kindly contribute generously towards this project. Lillah, Sadaqaah & Zakaat accepted.
