In a triumph of discipline, endurance, and heart, Laudium's own Lushan Choki has earned his place among the world’s most elite long-distance runners by completing the Abbott World Marathon Majors—a series of six of the most prestigious marathons on the planet. From the bustling streets of New York, Tokyo and London to the iconic finish line in Boston, and now with a 6-star medal around his neck, Choki stands not only as one of the youngest to achieve this, but as a source of inspiration for young athletes and communities across South Africa.

“This isn’t just my victory,” Choki said after his final race. “This is for every young person back home who dreams big but doesn’t yet know how powerful they truly are.”

The Abbott World Marathon Majors is a badge of honor carried by less than 100 South Africans. Choki now joins this rare club, not just as a competitor, but as a beacon of possibility. His journey underscores the message that greatness doesn’t require perfect conditions—just commitment, consistency, and community.

He was quick to express gratitude to his biggest supporter—his wife, Laetitia. “None of this would’ve been possible without her. Her belief in me, her support, and her strength have powered me through more than just marathons — she’s run beside me through life’s toughest challenges. This medal and journey is for her."

As the world turns its eyes toward Cape Town, soon to be announced as the next World Marathon Major—and the first ever major marathon on African soil. This milestone for Cape Town is more than symbolic; it will signal a new era in global running, bringing Africa to the center stage in the international running community.

The economic and social potential is massive. The Cape Town Major is expected to generate millions in tourism revenue, create job opportunities, and attract athletes from every corner of the globe. More importantly, it opens doors for aspiring South African runners, placing them in the spotlight on our home turf.

“This isn’t just about sport—it’s about pride, progress, and positioning our country where it belongs: at the forefront,” Choki said. “The Cape Town Major will inspire future generations, and I hope we can all play a small part in showing what’s possible.”

To the youth of Laudium, Pretoria, South Africa and beyond, the message is clear: Let’s lace up. Our journey is just beginning 💯🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️🇿🇦
