Local business owners are alarmed following a spate of robberies targeting businesses around Tshwane.
The latest incident occurred in Marabastad on Wednesday afternoon when a cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed while collecting cash from a retail outlet owned by a Laudium family. Numerous shots were fired during the daring heist.
A total of five businesses owned by Laudium residents were targeted in the past two weeks during which cash, computers, cigarettes and other valuables were taken.
According to Kamal Jaffer, a local businessman, all the robberies targeted predominantly kokney owned businesses. Jaffer has urged members of the kokney community to mobilize and devise a plan of action in dealing decisively with the current spree.
The current spate of robberies has also left one businessman hospitalized after he was shot numerous times during the daring daylight heist in the Tshwane CBD.
Business owners are being advised to remain vigilant and ensure that adequate measures are in place in an attempt to avoid further attacks.
According to Marabastad businessman Hassen Mohideen, a meeting will be scheduled with Police top brass and the business community next week.
