Sergeant Mamabolo of Laudium SAPS Detective branch secured a heavy sentence this week. He ensured that two suspects, Isaac Soky Swafo and Mbeti Silas Nkopane Sthonga were both handed a three (03) years direct imprisonment after both were charged with possession of property suspected to be stolen and theft which took place in Laudium.
The sentence was handed at the Atteridgeville Magistrate court.
In a separate incident, a 28 year old man was arrested for attempted murder yesterday morning.
It is alleged that the suspect driving a VW Polo Vivo fired shots at a man sitting outside a house in Onyx street.
Reason for shooting is currently unknown and a case of attempted murder has been opened at Laudium SAPS. Investigation continues.
In another incident, two males aged 31 and 34 years were arrested for possession of suspected drugs.
Police in Laudium, as well as officers of nearby station components including communications, social crime prevention, NICDAM NPO and victim empowerment centre Kopano Manyano NPO held a crime awareness campaign in Itireleng.
The campaign which was aimed at raising awareness against gender based violence, alcohol abuse also included education on victim support services rendered at police stations.
Police also enlightened members of the public on how domestic violence is contributing to assaults and murder in our community.
Community were given information on how and where to report criminal activities. They were urged to be the eyes and ears of the police and dial the 0860 010 111 number.
Station Commander Colonel Margaret Nkwane expressed her excitement on the good work police have been doing recently. She also thanked the community for their support.
“Criminals will no longer be roaming freely in Laudium.” She added.
Suspects arrested appeared and others will appear in Atteridgeville Magistrate court soon.
