Laudium residents have reason to breathe easier today after the Laudium Community Policing Forum (CPF) and SAPS scored two major wins against vehicle theft syndicates operating in the area.

Toyota Yaris recovered, 2 suspects arrested

Earlier this afternoon, a Toyota Yaris stolen in Laudium was tracked and recovered in Atteridgeville. Through swift coordination between SAPS, vehicle tracking companies, and CPF members, two suspects were apprehended at the scene.

The recovery comes amid growing concern over Toyota Yaris vehicles being targeted in Laudium and surrounding areas.

Second operation nabs suspect, recovers VW Polo

In a second operation later today, CPF members led by Acting Chairperson Zahid ul Zaman responded to resident reports of a suspicious silver VW Polo linked to theft activities.

Working with Laudium SAPS, private security, and tracking partners, a pursuit ended with one suspect arrested and the suspects’ vehicle recovered. A second suspect escaped arrest.

CPF confirmed this marks the second successful operation today targeting vehicle theft syndicates in Laudium, with suspects arrested and vehicles recovered in both cases.

Laudium CPF says the back-to-back successes show what’s possible when SAPS, security companies, tracking firms, and vigilant residents work together.

“We remain in constant communication with SAPS regarding the ongoing concern of motor vehicle theft, with particular attention on the increasing targeting of Toyota Yaris vehicles,” the CPF stated.

With vehicle theft still a threat, Laudium CPF is urging all motorists to take extra precautions:

1. Fit your vehicle with an alarm system and tracking device

2. Park in secure garages or behind locked gates whenever possible

3. Stay alert for suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity
