An intelligence-driven operation conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in collaboration with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) led to the arrest of two suspects at the Mooiplaas Informal Settlement in Erasmia yesterday, 6 June 2026.
According to police, the operation followed information regarding firearms allegedly stolen during a burglary at a military facility in April this year.
During the raid, authorities recovered two R4 rifles with ammunition, a replica firearm, and a traffic officer’s uniform.
The suspects face charges relating to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of government property, and contravention of immigration legislation.
Police confirmed that investigations are continuing to determine whether the suspects may be linked to other criminal activities.
SAPS has urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
