An urgent call has been made on the community to take all the precautions to curb the spread of Covid19 - at especially funerals and places of worship.
Local doctors say it appears that several infections were picked up at these gatherings.
“We appeal to the community to adhere strictly to social distancing. We know family members want to comfort others by hugging them. Please don’t,” said one doctor.
Dr Hamza Bava said: “Please adhere to all the protocols at the funeral homes, the cemetery, mosques, churches, temples and public places.
“Wear your mask at all times and ensure you don’t shake hands, hug, etc.
“Many are now relaxed. This is dangerous. We must not lose our guard. You need to protect yourself and others,” said Dr Bava.
He confirmed that a number of cases have emerged from these gatherings.
Social Activist, Yusuf Abramjee, echoed the call of the doctors.
“We need to please take care. The numbers are increasing and we may even face a second wave of infections soon.
“Social distancing is a must. We also have the rules and regulations in place and we must adhere to them.”
Abramjee said the various burial committees are taking all the precautions at the funerals but the community had to follow instructions.
