Speaking to Laudium Today, “I am here to improve! If there’s somewhere that’s lacking, I have to make it good and if something is good, I have to ensure it be best.”

“The more you involve the people you serve, the better you can deal with crime.”

Service delivery, drug lords, corruption as well as ensuring a strong working relationship with the community – these are only a few of the issues the new Erasmia Police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Phindile Madonsela wants to focus on.

Madonsela said she joined the police force back in January 1995, and worked first at the Parkview Station in Rosebank.

Born and bred in the Free State, Madonsela attended school where she lived in Harrismith. After matriculating she went on to study to become a bank clerk in Durban.

Madonsela was promoted to Captain and custody management in 2009 when she moved from Parkview to Provincial office.

A single mom of three, Madonsela says she is a simple, warm and open minded person. “I am accommodating and I love to see people happy. When you help someone, you feel complete.

“When given a task, I get it done, I don’t like to drag things on. I love not to disappoint.”

“My passion is to serve and this is the reason I joined the force. Service delivery will be priority for me.”

Laudium Today asked Lieutenant Colonel Madonsela about the drug problem in the area. “I was told about the selling of drugs in the area and I believe it’s a great challenge and arrests have been slow in this regard. Together with my team, we will do our best to arrest the providers, the drug lords. If we can get them, the smaller ones will vanish.” She said.

“I’d love to see Erasmia become a safer place and with the community’s involvement, we will only improve. Success can only come when we work together.”

Madonsela said she hopes to receive the full support of the community and said a CPF can play a major part in the combat against crime.

A drive to create a CPF is already underway.
