Prominent anti-crime activist and media personality Yusuf Abramjee has been honoured with the 2026 Community Leader of the Year Award at the Future of Leadership Awards Gala Dinner held in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.

Abramjee expressed gratitude and humility following the recognition, saying the award was not only a personal achievement but a reflection of the collective efforts of countless individuals working tirelessly to uplift and protect communities across South Africa.

“This recognition is not about one individual; it reflects the collective efforts of so many people who work tirelessly every day to make a positive difference in our communities,” Abramjee said.

He added that the award is shared with volunteers, first responders, community leaders, anti-crime activists, organisations, and partners who continue to serve selflessly in creating safer communities.

Abramjee is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions over the years, including a national order, journalism and leadership awards, for his contribution to media, activism, and community upliftment.

Abramjee also reaffirmed his commitment to community service and nation-building, calling on South Africans to continue working together towards a safer, stronger, and more caring country.

“Together, we remain committed to serving, uplifting, and empowering others,” he said.

During his remarks, Abramjee congratulated fellow award recipients, including colleagues from eNCA. He paid special tribute to broadcaster Uveka Rangappa, who received the Media Leader of the Year Award in the Social Impact category, as well as veteran journalist Dan Moyane, who was honoured with the Media Leader of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Future of Leadership Awards recognise individuals and organisations making a meaningful impact in leadership, media, community development, and social change across South Africa.
